Problems with sliding glass shower doors are inevitable in every home. Some sliders can be fixed with a do-it-yourself approach, while others need the expertise of a professional from M&N Shower Doors. The following solutions address frequent problems people have reported.

Keep The Door Tracks Clean

Over time, dirt and dust will inevitably build up on your sliding door’s tracks. If you’d like to clear the grime and fix this issue, all you need is white vinegar! Simply pour some into the rails and leave it for no more than ten minutes. You may notice that the vinegar disappears before those ten minutes are up; if so, don’t worry –  this typically happens because water is seeping out via tiny holes in the door’s tracks. After you thoroughly soak the door with vinegar, swing it back and forth a few times, then flush it with water.

Scrubbing the Door Tracks

If white vinegar doesn’t do the trick, you can always utilize a mineral-infused lubricating solution. Just spread it over the tracks and scrub with a stiff brush until all of the dirt is gone. If there’s some tough grime that just won’t budge, then you might need to use something sharp to pry it loose — but be careful not ruin your shower door in the process!

Check the Door Rollers

Before you begin, use tweezers or toothpicks to remove any large pieces of debris from the tracks. If you can’t get rid of it completely, at least loosen it up. Then mix white vinegar and water in a bowl and scrub away at the remaining mess until it disappears.

Roll the Door Back and Check the Rollers

The rollers or wheels on your shower door enable you to open and close it with ease. You can see if they are rolling smoothly after a few movements, or if they’re sticking. If your shower door is giving you a little more resistance than normal when you close it, there’s a chance the rollers are jammed. You can clean them with vinegar or follow the solution above by removing the door from its tracks.

Reorient The Door

If your shower door isn’t performing as it should, take it off its tracks to check for any obstructions. It should close on its own once you’ve reinstalled it and locked it back into place.

The last thing you want while taking a steamy shower is a blast of cold air. To keep the heat in and the cold out, your shower door needs to close completely. If your glass door has come off its tracks, call us for quick and easy assistance.
