Frameless shower doors are gaining in popularity, and for a reason. It adds beauty and openness to the bathroom design. Temperatures are kept low enough to avoid discoloration or warping. So, what exactly is a frameless shower door? It’s a glass door with thick dimensions and no frames that provides adequate support.
The mystery of how it works remains. They have no support, so they come with clips, hinges, or door grips. The panels are waterproof and include a rubber extension at the bottom to minimize water seepage.
How to install frameless shower doors
Getting a professional to install your shower door is the best option, but if finances are tight, you may be compelled to try installing it on your own:
Clean the area
Thoroughly clean the walls and floor, taking care not to miss the corners or other surfaces where dirt may accumulate. Although there is a standard measurement for these doors, be sure that it will fit perfectly into your space.
Install the hinges and handle on the glass pane
After you’ve decided on the right size, fasten the gaskets and handle to the pane. Keep in mind that if it’s too tight, the glass might be damaged or break. It also shouldn’t be too loose since it risks falling out.
Put the swing door in place
One of your two panels should be shorter; that’s the swinging door. It should include a water sweep system at the bottom, which may be either a plastic or rubber strip. The wood shims are now in place as this stage is completed.
Install the longer panel
The longer panel should be placed where the swinging door is. Also, make sure there is a 1/16 inch gap between the doors from top to bottom. Finally, check that the panels are leveled before you secure them.
Drill the holes
Take a pencil or any other erasable marker and draw lines where you want to attach your hinges. Then drill holes in the locations marked on the paper, insert the anchors, and tighten them. The head of each anchor may not be level; it’s fine. Use a razor blade to remove any unevenness from the heads.
Tighten the hinges to the wall
Take the swinging door or a shorter glass panel and place it on the wood shims. Make sure both panels are aligned properly, with no gaps exceeding 1/16 inch. If everything appears to be in order, fix the hinges to the wall.
Add the water sweep system
Add the water sweep system to the bottom of the hinged door to prevent water from seeping outside.
